Rosewood Baha Mar
A Rosewood inside a casino resort, which is the hardest version of this collection's question.
Rosewood Baha Mar stands on Cable Beach outside Nassau, inside the Baha Mar development, which also holds two other hotels, a casino, golf and a water park. Accommodation is given as 221 rooms, suites and villas, and two pools are kept for Rosewood guests alone. Everything else on the site is shared: forty-odd restaurants and bars, the casino floor, the spa and the beach itself. The house opened in 2018, after the development's long and public financial collapse and its completion under new ownership, which is why a property of this size arrived on the island all at once rather than over a decade.
This is the hardest record in the register to defend and it is kept for that reason. The collection asks whether a house is held a class above the local luxury norm, and here the local norm is on the same property — a guest can walk from a Rosewood villa to a Grand Hyatt lobby in a few minutes. What Rosewood holds above it is the inventory, the staffing and the two private pools; what it cannot hold above it is the ground, because the ground belongs to the development.
The sensor reads the house, not the site. A Rosewood inside a complex is still a Rosewood by the standing ruling, and the record follows the house. The site is recorded as a fact about it, not as an exception to it.
The distance is narrower here than anywhere. Where a class-above house shares its beach and its restaurants with the norm it is meant to exceed, the signal is thinner. That is a weakness, and the record says so.
Who it is not for
Wrong for anyone who came for quiet: the casino and the water park are minutes away and the crowd is a resort crowd. Wrong for travellers who want a house with a boundary, since almost everything here is shared with two other hotels. And wrong for guests who want Nassau itself — Cable Beach is a strip of development, and the old town is a drive.
